Welcome to Healthy Choices, Fueled by Science.
New year, new platform.
Hello and thanks for being here.
For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Dr. Chana Davis. I have a PhD in genetics and love helping people use science to make healthy choices.
Note to past subscribers: I just migrated my email list over to Substack. I hope you enjoy the community-oriented, interactive nature of this platform.
Whether you’re new here, or have been reading my work for years, I’m so glad you’re here. I’m thrilled that you’re using science as your compass for making healthy choices.
Real science can be frustrating. It gives us grey when we want black and white. It shifts as we learn more, when we want it to stay put. It gives us slow and steady benefits when we want quick fixes.
Despite its limitations, following the science is the best path to healthy choices. Thanks for joining me on this path, and for giving me the opportunity to share my love of science.
Why Substack? Why now?
I’ve been sharing science through my website, social media (@fueledbyscience) and podcast (Get Real Health with Dr. Chana Davis) for several years now. I’ve covered a wide range of health topics, all of which are of great personal interest, and all of which require solid science to guide us: nutrition, fitness, vaccines, hormones, public health, and more.
I’ve added Substack to my repertoire because it allows me to dive a bit more deeply, and provide more resources to those who hunger for them.
I love that Substack is a community, one that I already belong to as a reader. I follow publications from many peers that I greatly respect (see my Recommendations). I also love that Substack makes it easy for us to interact, and am eager to hear from you in the comments.
Let’s hear it for science and skepticism!
In this space, I hope to build a community of like-minded people. People who value true expertise over charisma and hyperbole. People who want to know not just *what* the answer is, but *why* that is the best answer, and *how* we know this to be true (or, more accurately, how confident we are). People who want to know what goes on behind the scenes in health research and medicine. Does this sound like you?
What to expect
I’m playing it by ear when it comes to posting frequency. My plan is to start by posting once every 2 weeks, in synch with my podcast. If I get in a groove, I may dial up to once a week.
For now, everything is free, because I want to reach as many people as possible. Plus, frankly, I like the freedom to write when the mood strikes!
